:::Thank Heaven for Little Girls:::

Hi hi hi! Sorry I have been MIA - I have a good excuse though........ I was too busy becoming and AUNT! My sister and BIL had their baby on Monday afternoon and she is just the most precious, sweet little soul. I can't believe it. I am so proud of my sister.... she's my hero.

I got a text from my brother in law at 5:30am on Monday, saying that Ava would be here today and to call when I got up. So... I called him at 6am... got all the details... and then immediately booked a flight to Kansas City. I was NOT going to miss this.. :) I got there around 2pm... I raced to the room and it was just sister, brett and nurse and she was in so much pain..... she said, " I hate to kick you out sister, but this is about to get bad.." - It's hard to see someone you love in so much pain. :( Also - it might have scarred me for life if I had stayed. :) SO PROUD OF YOU SISTER!!

Anyways, so I remember seeing her before she had Ava - right when I got to the hospital.... crazy pain... and then I saw the most beautiful sight about an hour later..... My sister sitting up in her bed with a giant grin {looking stunning, of course} and the most precious little lady in her arms. Needless to say, I completely lost it... :) She had an au natural birth plan and stuck with it and Ava came out just perfectly. Brett was a champ too - I saw a different side of him that I hadn't really seen.... he is going to be a most wonderful daddy. Congrats C & B... I can't wait to see you all soon... :)

Doesn't get much better than that..... :)

Popping up in Dreams & discovering a GORGEOUS voice & Talent

Dreams are the darnDest things, I tell ya! You know how random people show up in your dreams.... sometimes from your childhood - people you haven't seen in 10-20 years? ... and sometimes you think {while you dreaming}, "what the heck? and "where the heck have you been?" That happened to me last night...

My dream went something like this....... {backstory} I went to Savannah College of Art and Design for college in Savannah, Georgia. I played on the soccer team. {dream} All I remember from my dream was I was back in Savannah - visiting - and somehow my entire school turned into this old warehouse in the middle of the woods. So I find myself running through the warehouse opening all these doors and getting closer and closer to familiar voices.... I finally get there and I see some of my teammates sitting around and starring and chatting in front a wood burning fire like we were living in the 1900's. Anyways, so I'm scanning the room and I see a girl I used to play club soccer with in middle school. We played together in Norman and then again in Edmond. Her name is Hilary. I immediately say... " Hilary Pitchlynn! What are you doing here?!" - and then I woke up. Good dream, huh?

....... That's besides the point. :0)

Needless to say, I got my google creep on this morning because I was like - that's way too weird - I haven't seen or heard from her in like 12 years.... I wonder what she is up to?

Want to know what she is up to?!?!?

She's a STUNNINGLY AMAZZZZZING SINGER!! Beyond gorgeous voice...I am seriously blown away. She goes by " Penny Hill" - I can't stop listening to her tunes. You MUST watch this video and buy her music from her website. You can listen to her album on her website.

Soooooooooooo good, RIGHT?!

Brett Heidebrecht Photography :)

Meet Claire & Brett - aren't they just SMOKIN GORGEOUS?! They are so stinking cool too... trust me, you would want to be their friends :) - you'd want to go shopping, read magazines, play with makeup, watch movies, and have great talks with claire.... and you'd want to play sports, watch sports, listen to music, play board games (and get beat), get your photo taken and hang out with brett. They are both so talented in different ways - they compliment each other greatly. And they are having a baby in less than 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPEE!!!!

Their engagement photos in NY - Michael Norwood took this.

In this post I wanted to share with you the suuuuuuuuuper talented -- Brett Heidebrecht.... My BIL. :) The thing I love most about his photographs is they don't appear to be over-worked or over-photoshopped. He is a true talent (as you will see below ;) ) and I am so happy to call him my BIL!

Check out this video he made of their "Baby Announcement" - and please excuse my "yelping" - I AM OVERJOYED!! They told us over Thanksgiving break when we were in Colorado.... Brett said they were filming the trip and thats why the camera was set up.... WHAT A TRICKSTER! :) It makes me tear up every time.... :)

He has a lot more where that came from so check out his website : http://www.brettheidebrecht.com/

My Daddio :0)

Hey HEY hey! It's Friday!! Woo hoo!! I hope everyone has had a great week.... I surely have had a pretty dandy one. Definitely ready for the weekend. I am heading to OK for probably my oldest childhood friends wedding this weekend. She and I have sort of lost touch over the college years but I am really happy for her and I'm excited for her to start this new journey and life. Congrats, Amanda!

I would also be going for Father's Day but my dad is in Colorado riding in the Bicycle Tour of Colorado - around 450 miles over 6 days in the Rocky Mountains. Ummm.... GO DAD!! This is his like... 7th or 8th year to do it... I think. He is the man. Way to go, Dad! GOOD LUCK!!

Anywho - since I will be really busy chillaxing in OK this weekend... I probably won't be posting on actual Father's Day... So I figured I would do it now.  So here we go..... :)

Dearest Daddio - You mean more to me than I could ever explain or put into words. Thank you for everything. Taking us to the pool and letting us hang all over you and your arms and throwing us all around, taking us camping at Lake Arcadia, taking us on drives, taking me to and from soccer practice and going to my games... taking me to tournaments all over the place and always being on the sidelines, encouraging me to stop crying and not quit soccer and get off the floor when I didn't make the soccer team I wanted to be on and go try out for a different team, for being my coach for softball and basketball and teaching me not throw a ball "like a girl", watching chick flicks with claire and I, creating all your songs and funny dad jokes that will surely and have surely stuck with us forever, for being a go getter and super smart, for being genuine, for being supportive, for being a positive influence, for being an active guy, for being a wonderfully great husband and friend to the best, most sweetest, incredible Carol B, for being artistic, for being so loving and forgiving, for the talks, and for everything else. Thank you so much... you are a truly unbelievable man. I hope everyone is as lucky and blessed as we are for a pops like you. I love you beyond forever, Dad. - Love, the Haley Haley of all Haley Haley Haley Haley's (my nickname) HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!

Here are some JHB classics........... :0)

"Twenty three sixteen coachlight drive, twenty three sixteen coachlight drive, twenty three sixteen coachlight drive"...{this was said on repeat from when we entered our neighborhood until we pulled into the driveway... usually coming home from my grandparents house in Tulsa...}

"Innnnn and out..... throoooough the door.... Innnnn and out..... throooooough the door." {.... my dad made this up because we would always ask " when will mommy be back?!? when will mommy be back" like a million times a night when we were lil kiddos.... so he came up with this and would say it while knee bouncing us on the blue chair, waiting for mom to come home from her nightly walk... somehow he always knew RIGHT when she would walk through the door.... and when she did we all cheered, haha.}

"Sprinkler!" {this is a car/roadtrip game my dad came up with while we were driving to and from Lincoln, Nebraska to see my grandparents (My dad would come up with the most random stuff to keep us entertained. It's a true gift, ha ha.) To play "sprinkler" is very much like playing "slugbug" - and if you've ever driven through Kansas.... you can agree with me that there's nothing much out there EXCEPT those giant farming sprinklers.... so this game would entertain us for hours. I still get a little nostalgic when I see one. :0)

"Soccer! Haley, Soccer!" {this was and is still said to me when I'm with my dad and he sees anything related to soccer.... a soccer ball... a soccer field.... a soccer goal... anything... anywhere.}

"Nooooooooooo Whining" {my pops is not a fan of whining or baby talk. Ha ha... and he let us know.}

"Yaaaay! Daddy home!" { he would say this every day when he would walk in the garage door.... <3 .... still says it to this day :) }

"Daddy go ni ni" { that's how he'd end the day... :) .... still does when we are home, ha ha.... and to my mom when we aren't}

"Faaaake, faaake" {I haven't heard this from him in a while but he used to always comment while we were watching movies or tv and say that.... ha ha. Which was usually immediately followed by one of us saying... " no comments, dad!!" - ( now I know where my commentary during tv shows comes from... =/ Thanks, dad!)}

" Did I tell you today that I love you? " {This is one of the things I remember and cherish most about my dad. He is the most lovable man.... always giving "squeezes" and reminding us, not just by words, but by actions that he loves us. He would ask us "Did I tell you today that I love you?" ...everyday that I can remember.... and I would respond with " No....... :)" and he would give a big hug and say, "I love my Haley Haley waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, can't believe it, can't believe it, can't believe it." It was always kind of funny at the time - and so we would giggle... but it's something that always meant so much to me.

{Well.... there's a lot more where that came from but those are the main "dadisms" that first come to mind.}

I also want to recognize my Dad's Dad... Grandpa B. Although I don't get to see him much anymore... I know that he is a wonderfully wonderful man... he raised my dad afterall :) Grandpa B has NEVER missed a birthday, Holiday, or Anniversary of anyone of his family members... He sends cards for EVERYTHING. What a stinking inspiration. He is also 93 years old.... wow.

Grandpa.... I doubt you will read this, but I wanted to say a grateful thanks to you anyways. Thanks for being a great gpa. I loved going to Lincoln when we were kids and running all around you and gma's cool house and yard. I'm sure I was a total mess sometimes... but I always had such a great time. Thanks for taking us around on the red wagon and for treating us for dinner at Valentinos. I remember the one movie you guys had that we would watch down in the basement when we were there... I think it was "Sleepless in Seattle"... always takes me back. I will never forget all the fond memories of your house on Jeffery Drive. I love you dearly and hope to see you soon.

signing off.... HB.

The Ever Inspiring... K. Catrone :)

I read this book a while back and posted about it on my fake blog that I told about 2 people about... and I was just going through it again and thought I would share it with you all. It's very inspirational...." If You Have to Cry, Go Outside : And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You " - so hard to put down. I downloaded it on my kindle back in October and in the midst of reading it, I accidentally deleted it! DANG TECHNOLOGY!!!!!! Anywho, I love Kelly's outlook on life and I just think her words and her book are just so powerful and inspiring. You should give it a spin through if you a interested.

Without further adieu.....

I think the best thing to do is just know that there’s a big difference between style and fashion, and that one doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the other. I think people should stop and get off the train. I think they should look at things, and they should sit like a king on a throne and let everything pass by them. They should practice the art of discernment, and they should do that with their dollar, and they should do it with their eye, and they should do it with their ear, and do it with their mouth, and they should do it with every one of their senses. And they should really sit there, and they should make up their own fucking minds. They should do it about government, and they should do it about their art, and they should it about their clothes, and about their music, about their foods. You decide. If you dig it, dig it. If it’s fashionable to you, then love it and celebrate it.

------------------------

The whole book basically says that I think women have been programmed to the be the prettiest, skinniest, best girl, to be really skinny and wear pretty clothes and go to college and get a great degree and then come out and get a great job, and then find a guy and get married, and get pregnant and have a baby, and sorta live happily ever after. And my take is that doesn’t really allow for a lot of freedom for them figure out like, is that who they really are. And so, this is the book for like the village girl who doesnt wanna do things in the order that their mother said, like first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage. This is for the person who wants to find themselves and be who they are, regardless of their gender, and make the most of their life.

------------------------

I’m a really big believer that we all have this voice inside of us, and that voice is God talking to us, and we are all magical, and we all have something as specific to do as our fingerprint. And everybody should go out and do that. And I think between the ages of 15 and 32, don’t worry about getting married, don’t worry about settling down, don’t worry about having a baby. Give birth to yourself.

------------------------

You need to appoint yourself manager of your own personal brand. Don't blend in. People who are out making a difference in the world, are not like everyone else. Good brands are authentic, focused and consistent.

Bonnaroo Part 1

Hey lovelies! I hope everyone is doing fantabulous....!! I am still recovering from lack of sleep and lack of responsibility from being at adult summer camp aka Bonnaroo Music Festival....

This post will be detail free and I will just come back with a longer post about my thoughts and some photos of my experience tomorrow. Mumford and Sons was definitely the highlight of my festival as far as music goes.... Here is their show... they played a few new tunes and that made me very anxious for the new record. BUT, YEAH.... WOW. I've seen them once before at the House of Blues in Dallas... but this was a whole new experience.... the crowd was enormous and you could really tell the band was really gracious and excited to be there... which is nice :) Anyways, enjoy!!

My two new favs are ...

Below My Feet

You were cold as the blood through your bones

And the light which led us from our chosen homes
Well I was lost

And now I sleep
Sleep the hours and that I don't weep
When all I knew was steeped in blackened holes
I was lost

Keep the earth below my feet
For all my sweat, my blood runs weak
Let me learn from where I have been
Keep my eyes to serve and hands to learn
Keep my eyes to serve and hands to learn

So I was still
I was under your spell
When I was told by Jesus all was well
So all must be well

Just give me time
You know your desires and mine
Wrap my flesh in ivory and in twine
For I must be well

Keep the earth below my feet
For all my sweat, my blood runs weak
Let me learn from where I have been
So keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn
Well keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn

Keep the earth below my feet
For all my sweat, my blood runs weak
Let me learn from where I have been
Keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn
Keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn

&

Lover of the light

In the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
But I'll be yours if you'll be mine

Stretch out my life and pick the seams out
Take what you like, but close my ears and eyes
Watch me crumble over and over

I have done wrong, so build your tower
But call me home and I will build a throne
And wash my eyes out never again

But love the one you hold
And I'll be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

Skin too tight and eyes like marbles
You spin me high so watch me as I glide
Before I tumble homeward, homeward

I know I tried, I was not stable
Flawed by pride, I miss my sanguine eyes
So hold my hands up...breathe in, breathe out.

But love the one you hold
And I'll be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

And in the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
You may not trust the promises of the change I'll show
But I'll be yours if you'll be mine

So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

Alrighty, take care and I will post tomorrow :) HB

Packing : Bonnaroo Music Festival

Howdy, Howdy, Howdy! I hope everyone is happy and doing well.

Today is my Thursday... so I am trying REAL hard to fight through these next couple work days so that I can be free from work and responsibility for 4 days in Manchester, TN at za Bonnaroo Music Festival. I'm looking forward to it g r e a t l y.... I've laid out my outfits for each day and I think I am pretty set in that department... I don't want to over pack for this one. Here is what I have so far....

sleeping bag, tent, chacos, bathing suit, 2 jorts,
essential toiletries, sunglasses, floppy hat, camera,
and a tank for each day... :)

Also adding : rain jacket, umbrella, headlamp, & fan(s)

I am adding one more item to the list - tye dyed jorts - I will post a photo later because they are currently "soaking in" the dye [ I made them on my lunch break :) ] I got white denim capre crop pants from old navy for the sole purpose of turning them into cutoff's.... so I did just that - cut them in to cute jorts and tye dyed them fushia, blue, lime green, purple, and I think some dark red was created too. I can't wait to see the end result.

Tonight is the designated night for packing up the trucks, purchasing snacks, bevvies, etc so that we can just scoot on out of the Big D tomorrow after work. It's gonna be a loooooong nights drive... and then a FANTASTIC 4 days with friends, music, food, bevvies, sun, rain, and people watching.

K, I gotta get after it :0)

See you all next week! Be safe and have a lovely week. HB

Just Kids / SVPPLY/ Quote

Happy Thursday, Friends!

We are almost there...... THE WEEKEND! Can't wait. We can do it :)

It's been a pretty good 4 day week. Steak was grilled, wine was drank, lentil tacos were made, Bonnaroo You -Tubing took place, and now its Thursday and I am hosting Book Club... which has now turned into "Jazz Under the Stars" :) The book we were supposed to read is called Just Kids by Patti Smith. I kindled it and have read a little but I've just been so busy doing stuff that I haven't had a moment to sit and just read. So, I am, yet again, unprepared for book club. =/ I really do intend on reading it all though... it has been getting great reviews.

About the book:

It was the summer Coltrane died, the summer of love and riots, and the summer when a chance encounter in Brooklyn led two young people on a path of art, devotion, and initiation.
Patti Smith would evolve as a poet and performer, and Robert Mapplethorpe would direct his highly provocative style toward photography. Bound in innocence and enthusiasm, they traversed the city from Coney Island to Forty-second Street, and eventually to the celebrated round table of Max's Kansas City, where the Andy Warhol contingent held court. In 1969, the pair set up camp at the Hotel Chelsea and soon entered a community of the famous and infamous—the influential artists of the day and the colorful fringe. It was a time of heightened awareness, when the worlds of poetry, rock and roll, art, and sexual politics were colliding and exploding. In this milieu, two kids made a pact to take care of each other. Scrappy, romantic, committed to create, and fueled by their mutual dreams and drives, they would prod and provide for one another during the hungry years.
Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy. It serves as a salute to New York City during the late sixties and seventies and to its rich and poor, its hustlers and hellions. A true fable, it is a portrait of two young artists' ascent, a prelude to fame. - Harper Collins

“Just Kids” captures a moment when Ms. Smith and Mapplethorpe were young, inseparable, perfectly bohemian and completely unknown, to the point in which a touristy couple in Washington Square Park spied them in the early autumn of 1967 and argued about whether they were worth a snapshot. The woman thought they looked like artists. The man disagreed, saying dismissively, “They’re just kids.”

Here is an article from the NY Times about the book if you are interested.

Has anyone heard of SVPPLY? I'm sure you have... my friend told me about it a couple years ago and I kind of forgot about it until I got an email that "blank blank likes your SVPPLY" and so I thought I would check back in. Here are some of my picks that I've selected. If you are familiar with this site you will know that you can click the link under the image and it will take you to my personal page and you can see what I've picked and you can buy it (buy for me, too! ha ha) or you can look for stuff on others pages... it's pretty addicting once you get the hang of it. Anyways, I just thought I would share.

I'll end with a quote by Patti Smith. Good thoughts.

peace n blessins. hb
